Loretta Merritt quoted in several publications on Roman Catholic diocese appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada

Loretta Merritt was quoted in several publications regarding her client, Irene Deschenes' decades-long legal battle. Deschenes was sexually abused by a priest as a child. She settled her case in 2006 but later discovered that the London Diocese of the Roman Catholic failed to disclose incriminating police statements they had before she was abused. We successfully set aside the settlement based on the Church’s misrepresentation. The Church has now filed for leave to appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada after Ontario's highest court granted her the right to pursue her claim for sexual abuse.


Irene Deschenes, who was sexually abused by a priest as a child says the Roman Catholic church is turning to Canada's top court in an effort to further delay a decades-long legal battle.

Deschenes says the Diocese of London has filed for leave to appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada after Ontario's highest court granted her the right to sue the church a second time over the abuse.
